Soft Cheese mix!

So this week I've been a little obsessed with soft cheese. Now I mean I've basically eaten it everyday this week.
So I decided to try mixing up my own sort of soft cheese. Obviously I couldn't make this from scratch or anything, so I used Philadelphia as a base and worked on that.
I started by adding my favourite blue cheese, in little chunks, then some dried mixed herbs, as it's not really the right time to go out and pick the ones in my garden. I just put about a tea spoon in there, but really the amount is up to your tastes. Then I added some black pepper, about half a teas spoon or so and then a pinch of salt and tah dah, a lovely tasting soft cheese mix, that you can basically put on anything you like.
Go crazy trying out different things, you can really have some fun with this, as it's just something I thought up, so don't feel any need to stick to it or anything. Throw together your favourite flavours and see what comes out, just don't make too much, just in case it tastes disguising, no need to waste food, right?

Those small mistakes #2

So when I was trying to get the mixture for my lipstick into my container, I ended up pouring it all over the worktop, luckily this stuff it really easy to clean up, but I would very much recommend spooning the mixture with a metal tea spoon, as that way is way more easy and accurate and when I did it that way I didn't spill a bit.
But because of my previous blunder I've now got red lipstick in the groves of the bottom of the container, which means I get red fingertips every time I use it now, which is kind of annoying, so heed the warning and follow the instruction, no pouring. It may seem faster, but it's not.

Spoons FOREVER!

P.s. You can put your lipstick in anything, so think outside the box a little. I saw one person who had put there's in a locket which was super cute, so yeah. Get inspired!

How to make lipstick out of Crayons

So this is how to make lipstick out of crayons. I got the idea from this video I watched, where the woman was afraid of lead poisoning from her lipsticks - don't worry this was back around 2003, so I don't think lipsticks have lead in them now.
Although I'm not worried about lead poisoning from my lipsticks. I do like trying out new things and this seemed like something that could be really fun and interesting.
So this is my recipe, it's a little different from the one in the video.

Ingredients:

  • Grape seed oil
  • Optiphen (optional)
  • Crayon (colour of choice)
  • Shea butter
  • Water

Utensils:

  • Pan
  • Bowl
  • Something to stir with, such as a wooden skewer
  • Empty container for the lipstick

How:

Put some water into you pan and place it over a medium heat.
Place the bowl over the pan, once the water has started to boil and turn the heat down slightly. Then add half a table spoon of the Shea butter and Grape seed oil.
Wait for the Shea butter to melt a little then add 1 drop on Optiphen (optional)
Snap your chosen crayon in half and place the half into the mixture, remember to remove the paper cover before placing the crayon in the mixture.
Stir the crayon around the mixture, making sure that all the ingredients get mixed together.
Once the crayon has fully melted turn off the heat.
Spoon the mixture into your container, while it is still hot. Be careful when spooning the mixture, as it will set pretty quickly.
The container that I used was just an empty lip balm tube, with a twisty bottom, something like this is ideal for quick application, but you can use small tube or pots as well and apply with a brush.

Cleaning:

When cleaning the mixture out of the bowl (etc) do not use water and soap straight away. Start by taking some kitchen roll and wiping the mixture off of the bowl. Add a little soap if you are finding it hard to get the colour off of the bowl and rinse with water. Because there is oils in this mixture if you use water straight away it will not be easy to clean.

Have fun mixing up the colour and try using such things as a colour wheel and what not.
Oh by the way if you were wondering the Optiphen is a preservative with this in your mixture it should survive about a year or so, so it's nice to have that is there, but you don't have to put it in if you don't want to.
So here's the video that inspired this creation:
As you can see she does the recipe a little differently than me, but the basic idea is the same. I found that my ingredients were easier to get, as castor oil can be hard to buy, as it is said to have something to do with terminating pregnancy or something - I'm not too sure about this, but yeah it can be hard to buy.
And here another person who has fallen for the colouring in you lips with crayons trend - alright it's not really a trend trend, but it's something like one. The Craft Cloud

Those small mistakes #1

So the crumble cooked and I've found out something quite important about the sort of over proof dish you want to use when making crumble.
You want to go for one that is quite deep, because otherwise the crumble won't cover the top and it won't turn out quite excellent, as my one did, although it still tasted good and it was only that you get less fruit in each serving.
Although I could have done with keeping it in there longer, but what the hell? You live and you learn right?

How to make Apple and Blackberry crumple (from scratch).

So this is my first post on this particular blog - wow isn't thin exciting?
So to start things off I'm going to go ahead and talk about this recipe that I tried out today, well it was meant to be yesterday, but I decided today would probably be better.
Any ways I don't know why but I had a hankering for crumble and since it's the season for them and all, I decided that a blackberry and apple crumble would be good.
So I went out and got the ingredients and here's the recipe:

Ingredients
2 Bramley apples (or 3 of any other type of smaller apple, it doesn’t have to be Bramley apple, just saying)
200g blackberries
100g plain flour (or 50g plain and 50g wholemeal if you prefer)
50g brown sugar – when weighing this out, put 10g of it into a separate bowl ready to mix in with the fruit later.
40g cold, unsalted butter

Method
1. Preheat oven to 180C/Gas Mark 4 then peel, core and chop your apples into small piece – or as small as you want them to be that is.
2. Put into an oven-proof dish with the blackberries, 10g of the sugar and a splash of water – that’s about a table spoon or so, depending on how you like it, but if you’ve never had this before, go this just less than a table spoon and make sure it gets all over the fruit and not just in one place.
3. Mix to coat the fruit, and bake in oven for 15 mins to soften the fruit.
4. Meanwhile, put the flour and butter – which should be in little cubes - in a bowl and rub together with your fingertips until it has the consistency of breadcrumbs – at this point you going to get your hands dirty, because this will end up under your fingernails and if it doesn’t you’re not doing it right, or your fingernails are extremely short and you might want to think about growing them out a little.
5. Add the remaining sugar and stir through – you can just stir this with your hands and make less washing up for yourself, but you can decided when you come to this point.
6. Take dish out of oven, cover fruit with the crumble mixture and bake for 30 mins until golden and crunchy on top – you might want to leave it more or less than 30 mins depending on how you like it.

You can serve this with cream or ice cream or just eat it plain, if you don't like or don't have any.
It takes about 60 mins to cook - in total - and 30 prep time.
P.s. Don't worry if some of the juices from the fruit seep to the top of the crumble, it doesn't change the taste at all.
P.p.s. This isn't an image of the crumble I made, as my computer is acting up and won't let me put my image up, but it's close to the one I made, although mine was a little darker in colour, but you can see what yours should look like from this picture at least - or something like that.
